N5VLZ:
Our next net holiday is on Monday, June 30, as
the July 4 holiday is on Friday this year. The
PCL Net will be off that night.
I think I've been spending too much time at the
computer, as I think I'm becoming dyslexic, or
I have a bad case of fat finger syndrome. After
doing the QCWA Digital Net and the Arkansas
D-Star Net last night, I started working on the
square dance publication I had to release...but
found out today, I got a phone number crossed.
So, I'll fix that for the next issue. Then, I
started recording the segments for the audio
transcript for the QCWA Journal monthly issue.
I had to keep making edits from voice screw-ups,
so at 4:30am, I decided that it was time to quit
and go to bed. I had a severe migraine headache,
and didn't get out of bed until mid-afternoon.
But, I finally got that done at late afternoon
today, so that gives me a little bit of a break.
It looks like the latter part of this week into
the weekend will be rather stormy, so I wanted to
get that stuff done now. I'm supposed to do a ham
radio license exam session on Saturday, but if no
one signs up by 11am Thursday, the session will be
canceled. No Question Pool change on the ham radio
exams this year, but the cycle starts fresh in
2026.
The GFS has been consistent developing a tropical
cyclone in the Caribbean Sea, and moving it toward
the Gulf Coast late next week. At the moment, there
is no record of a hurricane in the Gulf Of America,
so I want my insurance premium adjusted accordingly
(hi hi).
Field Day is 3 weeks from this Saturday, but I have
no plans for it, except doing my regular nets.
GE Bob, how was your week?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All!
Sunny, warm, then wet and cold. Back to sunny warm
today.
Mowed the yard today. Got that out of the way for
the week.
In ham radio news I solved the Winlink Hamword
puzzle on the 2nd guess this week. Never done that
before.
And a fellow that runs a secondary Winlink server
in the neighborhood moved to UHF from VHF, and is
planning to put up a packet BBS. Actually, I think
he might be planning to use VaraFM for his modem.
But that'll be a nice addition to the area.
MJ's birthday was this week. Of course that involved
eating too much. A good time was had by all.
BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob, I did the same on Friday and Saturday (overeating)
when my check came in early, ordering via DoorDash,
going to a BBQ dinner, and ordering groceries.
I got in a fight with a computer tower, and gashed my
left arm...so I was left to just eat, and take photos.
My lawn got mowed Friday...hopefully, I won't need another
one until late in the month. Congratulations on Hamword,
and FB on the possible future packet BBS in the area.
GE Scott, how was your week?? >>>
**
K0WAV:
Well, mostly soggy untill the last few days. I did sneak
in one lawn mowing before that last rain. Lots of
property maintenence and not too much playing radio, but
I did happen to catch a 6 meter window and banged out
couple dozen contacts on FT8. My 6 meter state count is
up to 25. Last session, I added MT ME WY so it was good.
No update to BBS station progress... too many irons in
fire.
So that about wraps up my report for the past few weeks.
BTU >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Scott, folks on the QCWA 6 Meter Net last week noted that 6
was wide open recently, and they made a ton of contacts. I
think we all have too many irons in the fire, especially now
that summer is here.
GE Rosti, how was your week?? >>>
**
KC3FQF:
Ge All, and TU Glenn for let me use your NODE now
All is good, love learning about AX.25
Spend time every day learning the mode, i did setup BBS on
VHF/HF and just playing with it, having fun
Just realized that people play chess over AX.25, so need to
find oponent to play
All is good, BTU
**
N5VLZ:
Rosti, FB on the BBS, and AX 25 things. I do better at
checkers than chess myself.
GE Rick...I saw where Canada has a ton of wildfires right
now...hope you're OK...the smoke is here as well >>>
**
VA7RBP:
GE Daryl and all on NET.
Yes, lots of wildfires up North, we hope none of that stuff
happens around here... but it's inevitable, it just takes a
wave of thunderstorms to come through and a lightning stike.
Temperatures have been getting up into the 90s and things are
drying out.
On the radio front, I haven't been doing much, just the usual
40M and 20M PACTOR, and I haven't been hearing anyone lately.
Last week, I started assembling my gear for Field Day, loading
software on the PC I want to use, and testing it out. We have
been casting around for campsites to use, but everything is
already booked up. All that will be left are a few first come
first served, so we will have to show up earlier in the week
to "maybe" get a spot.
Tomorrow, we have to drive to Kelowna (4 hours) so Arlene can
have a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon about a knee
replacement, then drive home (another 4 hours).
Well, that's about all I have, so BTU Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Rick, first I hope the wildfires stay to your north. That dry
lightning is bad, especially with Santa Ana Winds in California.
Hopefully, you can get a site for Field Day. GL on Arlene's
knee replacement surgery consulation. And, here's hoping the
bands cooperate on Field Day. The G4 storm now is sending aurora
into north Arkansas tonight, and screwing HF all to heck.
GE Glenn, how was your week?? >>>
**
N3MEL:
GE everyone, I am on call this week and been on the phone the
last 20 minutes, but off now. Weather finally a little better
here in SEPA as well, tired of the rain!
Finished up the May PKTNET with 90 check-ins and already thinking
about June's. Due to some travel, I think I might take July off,
unless I find someone to take it.
Been messing around with PSK31 on 40 and have a little fun when
the band is open.
I hear Knee replacement, I'm 6 months out on a double knee
replacement and doing very well and pain free, I was driving
and back to work in 5 weeks. Glad to have it behind me for sure.
Well not much else form here so back to Daryl >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Glenn, know about being "on hold"...took 3 hours of waiting to
get through to a medical deal, then you usually talk to an AI bot.
Frustrating. FB on the packet net, and I'd say take the vacation
and time off if you can. I still plan to go to the Shreveport
Hamfest Aug 9 unless something comes up...but other travel is on
hold. FB on PSK31 on 40m. It has been 1 1/2 years since my left
hip replacement surgery, but the tendonitis from it flares up
every now and then. We'll probably be unable to get any rain
come summer.
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All. We have had a quiet week followed by a crazy weekend.
On Saturday, we went out to get some flowers and stuff for the
backyard, and I guess we just opened and closed the garage door
one too many times. The motor gave up the ghost. Nothing but a
buzz. I guess I can't complain too much because it was installed
last century. Literally.
Anyway, got somebody to come out today and replace it. He said
"ya, those old units lasted forever, that's why they don't make
them any more." So I guess he is promising that I will NOT get
25 years service out of the new one. Anyway, the garage door
works again.
So, next, we had rain yesterday into this morning. Almost 2
inches ... not much for some of you, but a lot of rain for the
desert here. That then showed that we have a leak in the roof.
At least it is not inside, it is dripping from the ceiling over
the back patio. So I had a guy in today to give us a quote on
fixing the leak in the roof. Ugh.
On top of that, we had a guy in today to do some drywall work
before we do some painting. So, today was maintenance day.
Aside from that, not much radio over the weekend, I disconnected
the antenna feed because of the thunderstorms that rolled in. It
is drying up now and all should be clear for next weekend.
Whew! Watching people work is tiring :-) Back to net >>>
N5VLZ:
Carl, bummer on the house issues. I guess you'll be lucky to get
25 months, weeks, or days out of the deal. Quality doesn't mean
anything anymore. Storms will roll back in here by late week.
I don't watch my lawn man do the work, and I still get tired. :)
Anyway, that's it for round 1. Back to the top for final comments.
Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS. Anything else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
Nothing more here - everyone have a good week! 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Have a good week, Bob...see you next week.
Scott, anything else?? >>>
**
K0WAV:
Nope, I all out of gas. btu >>>

Rosti, anything else?? >>>
**
KC3FQF:
Thank you Daryl, quick question, is there a AX.25 activity
during FD? just wandering
**
N5VLZ:
Rosti, there may be, but I'm not sure.
**
KC3FQF:
Ok, no problem, i am just having fun with this mode, tu
for having me here. 73 everyone.

VA7RBP:
That's it for me. Thanks for doing the NET Daryl, and thanks
to Bob for providing the BBS. Everyone have a great week, stay
well, and 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

**
N3MEL:
No Daryl that is about it for here. Bob NY I will be sending
you an email sometime soon. I have something I would like to
run by you. 73 everyone have a great week >>>
**
N5VLZ:

Carl, you get to wrap it up tonight. Anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Nothing else from here (I hope!) good night all and 73s all
around >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Carl. Hope you can get everything fixed.
That will do it for tonight's net. I'll post the scribe on Tuesday,
as I have to prepare for another net. have a good week, stay safe,
healthy, weather aware, and radioactive. GN and take care DE N5VLZ >>>
