BAD NEWS: OPDX ML to QRT
                           ========================
Dear OPDX Readers,

After more than 36 years of providing the OPDX Mail List/Bulletin to
the worldwide amateur radio community, I am sorry to announce that I may
have to discontinue the list.

The reason is not that I have chosen to stop providing the service. Rather,
Gaggle Mail, the service I have used to distribute OPDX, has changed the
limits of its free plan.

When I began using the service, the free plan allowed up to 1,000 sub-
scribers. The new policy limits the free plan to fewer than 200 members
(as of November 10th). The OPDX Mail List currently has approximately
+700 readers, which means I would have to remove more than 500 of you or
begin paying a monthly fee.

Since the OPDX Mail List/Bulletin began in 1990, it has always been a
completely free service. I have never charged readers for the information
provided through OPDX, and I have no plans to start charging now.

For more than three decades, my goal has simply been to share information
that helps amateur radio operators stay connected with one another and
with the worldwide DX community. It has been my privilege to provide news,
DX information, operating updates, and other information of interest to
amateur radio operators in the United States and around the world.

Amateur radio has always been about communication and community. Over the
years, I have been fortunate to play a small part in keeping that community
connected.

I have contacted Gaggle Mail to ask whether they would reconsider the new
limit or provide an alternative that would allow the OPDX Mail List to
continue as a free, non-commercial community service. Unfortunately, if
they cannot provide a workable solution, I will have no choice but to
discontinue the list.

I want to thank everyone who has enjoyed reading the OPDX, as well as
those who have taken the time to contribute the DX information so I can
share it with other operators around the globe. Your support, contributions,
and encouragement over the years has meant more to me than you probably
realize.

I never expected the OPDX Mail List/Bulletin to continue for more than three
decades when it began in 1990. It has been an incredible journey, and I am
grateful to have shared it with amateur radio operators around the world.

If this does become the final chapter of OPDX, please know that it has been
an honor and a privilege to serve the amateur radio community.

Thank you for being part of OPDX.

73,
Tedd Mirgliotta, KB8NW
Administrator, OPDX Mail List

P.S. Update/Summary -- Gaggle Mail has chosen NOT to grandfather the
OPDX ML, so the last posting on the mail list will be on November 9th.
As of September 29th, Gaggle Mail has locked out all new subscribers
until I pay 70.00 USDs per month or 700.00 USDs per year (at the current
number of subscribers, and these fees will go up with added subscribers).
I will NOT be looking for or starting a new mail list service. I have
decided to totally retire the OPDX ML after 36+ years.
