These are good suggestions, but they treat the symptoms not the cause.

The cause is an operator has a misconfigured mail client that needs to
be corrected.  Becuase I can configure rejects, you can, but the other
99 percentile here probably wont.  Heck, we're probably lucky if they
read SYSOP@*. Then user that sent email may wonder some day later why no
one responded. Well because of this. :D
