N5VLZ:

Well, I got a good report from the urologist last
week, and only have a few more podiatrist visits,
plus a full physical, A1C check, and a flu shot
with my PCP, in the coming months. Hopefully, that
will be all of the medical exams for me for 2025.

With the shutdown of HamShack Hotline on Aug. 29,
I've signed up with AmateurWire, plus HamsOverIP.
One does have to register, and upload an official
copy of their license, and their DMR ID, if they
have one. You don't need "a hard phone", and use
the GroundWire App for the Android phone (there
is an initial fee). My AmateurWire number is 1577,
and my HamsOverIP number is 101797. I'm also on
APRS as N5VLZ-10, and my email is good on QRZ.

I thought the HamCrazy callsign light I had bought
was defective, then I discovered that the power
switch for the surge protected set of outlets had
been turned off. Another gray blonde moment for
me (hi hi). I use it for a night light, as long
as the power doesn't go out.

We've had scattered thunderstorms around, but
nothing like the terrible flooding in the Texas
Hill Country, plus areas of New Mexico. And, a
large wildfire destroyed many buildings on the
north rim of the Grand Canyon. The peak of the
hurricane season is just over 2 weeks away, and
I saw a long range temperature anomaly model
that showed the MidSouth in the deep freeze by
next February. I think the weather machine needs
a Prozac (hi hi).

I start 2 new nets for the QCWA (Quarter Century
Wireless Association) this week, on the first and
third Saturday. The QCWA CQ200 Net on the VoIP
ONLY mode at 9pm Eastern, followed by the QCWA
Arkansas 158 Net at 10pm Eastern.

Go to https://cqplace.com for info on CQ200, and
https://openquad.net for connection options for
the QuadNet Array...I do 3 ham radio nets over
there each week, with a 4th net on the first and
third Saturday.

I spent all day waiting for Terminix to arrive to
do an inspection, then for my SimpliSafe Alarm
System KeyFob to arrive...so I haven't had a
chance to eat, or take a nap today. So, I'll eat
after this net, and before the Pun In Life Net on
the QuadNet Array later this evening. Posting of
the scribe will wait until sometime Tuesday. I
should sleep like a rock tonight. While I was
waiting, I set up a Money Manager app, to track
the budget. It makes it better than tracking it
through a textfile.

One of the state square dance callers lost his
battle with cancer last week, so I had to prepare
a memorial ad for him. The celebration of life
service was this morning, but I was stuck here at
home, as noted earlier. I doubt any family has
escaped that scourge.

GE Bob...how was your week?? >>>

**
NS2B:

GE All!

Hot and humid with flash flood warnings.
Fortunately, no flooding has come to pass.

Speaking of things going away. I just saw where
Johnathan Naylor is pulling the M17 protocol out
of his MMDVM program. Since that's the heart of
most digital mode hotspots, rumor has it that PiStar
and the other on (can't remember what it is called)
will follow suit.

Since my hamshack hotline phone has no purpose now,
I might try out that AmateurWire thing.

On the node here, the Xiegu G90 has taken over the
HF port. My Alinco has gone to the shop for some
fixing and tuneup.

In other news, one of my other hobbies is play
ukulele with the town old folks (yeah, I know, I
am one) - anyway, last Thursday we had a Erie Canal
dinner cruise, where about 50 of us did a ukulele
group play. It was a blast!

Nothing more here. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:

Bob, hamsoverip.com and amateurwire.org are the 2
websites. Both are set up the same way as HamShack
Hotline was. It took from 1-3 days for me to get my
credentials. Phone has been on charge the last 2
hours.

FB on the ukulele deal...and I almost had a fit when
you mentioned Jonathan Naylor. It was Jonathan Taylor,
K1RFD, who created Echolink. That would be a disaster
if they were to pull the plug on that. I guess M17 will
still be around, but just not on hotspots.

GE Charley, you'll be after Carl.

GE Scott...1 round for you is fine...how was your
week?? >>>

**

K0WAV:

Hey Daryl and everyone on the net.

Well hot here and humid. And, if it had not been humid,
we would have had no moisture. We went from deluge to
drought in a span of 3 weeks!

Shocked to get the email about HH but not totaly
unexpected. I will have to look into the other services.

I have 3 Cisco phones that can be used for that purpose.

The drama around M17 is disappointing but again not
unexpected. I now feel that I am completely done, over,
through with, digital voice modulation modes.

The politics and corporate drama is pathetic.

I will just stick with data modes and FreeDV on HF :)

Anyway, I did a log book check of my worked all states
list, and the only bands I have not worked all 50 on is
160m (45) and 6m (39), so there is that to aim for.

I will wrap things up and stay y'all have a great week
and see you around next time.

I will be "listen" but keyboard indisposed

so 73 for now BTU>>>

N5VLZ:

Scott, my refurbished Cisco SPA 525G, and/or the power
supply was bad...the phone died after 15 seconds of
power...so I trashed it.

Not everyone has gotten rain lately, but those who have
are drowning.

I try to stay away from the politics and the drams. FB
on going for WAS...hope you can get that. See you next
week.

GE Carl, how was your week??? >>>

**

KX4AC:

GE All,

Well, not much to report this week. We finally got the
roof and painting done, so the house is looking much
better.

However, the termite guys managed to drill through a
landscape watering pipe when they did their thing, so
now have to get that fixed. The plants around here don't
last long without watering ... except for the cactus,
they don't care. It has been hot, but no rain to speak
of, though we usually do get some thunderstorms this
time of year.

Still working on some electronics projects and working
on learning KiCad. Been pretty lazy on HF lately, need to
get back into that.

I guess that's about all for now. Back to net >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Carl, I hear another CME may be heading toward Earth...
but I'm not sure on that. If so, it'll screw HF all to
heck again. Bummer on the termite guys drilling through a
landscape watering pipe. FB on the KiCad and the electronics
projects.

I guess we lost, Glenn...should have checked beforehand. :P

GE Charley, how was your week?? >>>

**

NT5R:

ge everyone

Been busy with other projects but playing bit of radio this
week

We had AWESOME Field Day,some visitors and six transmitters
on air

Heard about demise of Hamshack Hotline

Business cards with HH numbers but never signed up for it

btu Daryl>>>

N5VLZ:

Charley, FB on FD. When my Cisco SPA 525G phone died, I
rarely used it. I ended up switching to the Groundwire app
for it, but now just have the HamsOverIP and the AmateurWire
as noted earlier.

That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments.
Scott was a 1 rounder, and we lost Glenn, but I'll log him.
That leaves just Bob, Carl, and Charley.

Bob, thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>

**

NS2B:

Nothing more here - everyone stay cool!

See you next week - 73 >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next time.

Carl, anything else?? >>>

**

KX4AC:

Definitely trying to stay cool here. So far it's OK, as long
as the Palo Verde nuclear plant, and my air conditioner keep
running. Only 106 today, so we are in a cool spell :-)

73's to all. See you next week. >>>

**

N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Carl...we'll see heat advisories here
by the end of the week.

Charley, if you're going to the Shreveport, Louisiana Hamfest
on August 9, or the Mena, Arkansas Hamfest on Sept. 6, I plan
to be there. Anything else for us?? >>>

**

NT5R:

Will likely go to Oklahoma City last weekend of month. Son lives
about hour from there. Good hamfest

Daryl and Bob, thanks for doing and hosting this net. Always fun
to type at everyone 73>>>

**

N5VLZ:

Charley, I was at Ham Holiday several years ago...that's a fun
hamfest. Thanks for being here.

That's a wrap on tonight's PCL Net. I need to get a bite to eat,
and prepare for another net, so I'll post the scribe Tuesday
morning.

Everyone stay, safe, healthy, weather aware, and radioactive.

73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
